PlayStation Joining Forces

PlayStation Joining Forces

Yes, it's still 1st April in some parts of the world - though the period of pranks is surely over globally at this point - but the formation of Sony Interactive Entertainment is no joke.

Following an announcement in January, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and its related companies in charge of the PlayStation business in each region have officially changed[1] the corporate names to Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC. today.

It sounds like Sony really plans to make PlayStation their tentpole brand, and be the standard bearer for their return to relevance. According to Shawn Layden president of the company, users will experience a slow change in the company that, later on, will mean a forge unified PlayStation organization. Specifically, it'll allow the company more flexibility to "adapt more quickly to meet the needs of the gaming community" and "drive the consistent and constant innovation" in the video game medium.

The formation of SIE aims to bring a new level of power to Sony in the video game sphere.

Created out of two other bodies, namely Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment, Sony has now branched out into two different functioning bodies. Layden hinted that more will be done in concentrated on their PlayStation VR project. You're already seeing the early fruits of that effort with PlayStation VR, and the work will continue across a number of fronts, " the post reads. In his revised role, the animated executive will also oversee Sony's Worldwide Studios, working alongside the likes of Shuhei Yoshida, Scott Rohde, and Michael Denny.

We don't know what else Sony Interactive Entertainment has planned at this point in the game, but with E3 coming up in a few months, the company should be playing its cards a little farther from its chest in the run-up to the biggest gaming expo of the year. One can espy the diamond-shaped logo of SCE which has been retained.
